Liverpool targets midfield upgrades as transfer fee dynamics shift

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola is seeking new midfield signings ahead of the 2026/27 season after a poor campaign. The club has been linked with French World Cup midfielder Manu Kone, who currently plays for AS Roma. Roma, under financial pressure to meet UEFA’s fair‑play rules, have raised Kone’s valuation to around £51 million.

Another potential target is Wolves midfielder João Gomes. His price fell from an agreed £38 million move to Atlético Madrid after that deal collapsed, and he is now estimated at about £30 million, making him a more affordable option for Liverpool. Both Liverpool and Manchester United have shown interest in Gomes. The ongoing speculation also includes Curtis Jones, whose future remains uncertain amid interest from Inter Milan, but Iraola has indicated a desire to keep him at the club.
