Livestock auctions in Australia see high prices for sheep and cattle genetics

Recent livestock auctions in Australia have seen strong results driven by demand for high-quality genetics. At the Gamadale Australian White stud sale, rams reached a top price of $6,500. The sale saw 68 of 80 rams sold with an average price of $2,350. Buyers traveled from various regions, including Tasmania, New South Wales, and South Australia, to acquire sheep noted for low-maintenance, quick-growing, and easy-care characteristics.

In a separate sale at Condobolin, Santa Gertrudis bulls achieved significant prices. The Rockingham Santa Gertrudis annual on-property sale saw all 39 bulls sold, with a top price of $38,000 and an average of $11,667. Additionally, bulls from the Moxey family’s Denngal stud reached a top price of $46,000 for a 21-month-old bull named Denngal Vaucluse V88. These bulls were noted for their structural balance and muscle blend, having been prepared on dual-purpose wheat crops without supplementary hand feeding.
