Livestock auctions in Australia see strong demand for cattle genetics

Recent livestock auctions in Australia have demonstrated strong demand for high-quality cattle genetics.

The inaugural Carnarvon Santa sale in Injune achieved a 98 per cent clearance rate, generating a gross of $424,000. The auction featured oats-fed classified and purebred Santa Gertrudis bulls, which averaged $10,342. Top prices reached $20,000 on three occasions, with buyers including Arrabury Pastoral Company and the Joliffe family.

At the 18th annual Futurity Pastoral on-property sale in Baradine, interstate competition from South Australia and Tasmania drove significant activity for Shorthorn and Charolais bulls. The sale saw a full clearance of 103 bulls, with an average price of $15,773. The top lot, Futurity Victory V647, sold for $60,000 to Carlton Stud of South Australia. Shorthorn two-year-old bulls led the pace, averaging $17,472.
