Livestock sales see high-priced ram deals in Australia

In recent livestock sales, high-value rams achieved significant prices in South Australia and New South Wales. At the Classings Classic held at Murray Bridge Racing Club, a Kiandra sire was sold via a private deal for $60,000. This represents the highest-priced South Australian ram of the season. The ram, a product of the high-performing sire Kiandra 221648, was purchased jointly by the Calcookara, Cowell, and Boorana studs, with semen shares distributed among eight additional studs.

Separately, the Talbragar Ram Sale in Leadville saw strong results driven by long-term breeding consistency. Stud principals Ben and Brooke Simmons sold 102 of 115 Border Leicester and White Suffolk rams, achieving an average price of $1,288. The top Border Leicester ram, Talbragar 250103, sold for $3,400 to Woolana Borders. The sale also featured White Suffolk rams, with the top price reaching $2,400. Christine Smith of CMS Rural was a major buyer, securing 20 Border Leicester rams.
