Livezile Mayor Traian Simionca sent to trial for sexual assault

Traian Simionca, the suspended mayor of Livezile, has been sent to trial on charges of sexual assault and influencing statements. While prosecutors initially investigated several offenses, including rape and violation of privacy, the Bistrița Court Prosecutor's Office dismissed the charges regarding rape and privacy violations, determining they did not meet the legal criteria for those specific crimes.

Alexandru Cotuți, a cultural administrator at the Livezile City Hall, has also been indicted in the same case for perjury. Judicial sources indicate that Cotuți allegedly contacted a witness and her brother at the mayor's request to pressure them into changing their police statements. Despite evidence of this contact, Cotuți reportedly denied any interaction with the witness to investigators.

In a recent development, a judge revoked the judicial control measure previously imposed on Simionca, stating the grounds for the measure no longer exist. The case is now registered with the Bistrița Court and will proceed to the preliminary chamber to evaluate the legality of the evidence and the investigation.
