Livno cemetery fire caused by nearby waste landfill

A fire occurred on Monday, October 5, at the Kraj Harem cemetery in Livno, causing damage to the sacred site. The Islamic Community of Livno reported that the fire spread from a waste landfill located in the immediate vicinity of the cemetery.

The community expressed deep distress and indignation regarding the situation, criticizing authorities for allowing waste to be disposed of so close to the burial grounds. They described the proximity of the landfill as a factor that placed the area in a state of increased danger and called the management of the site an irresponsible treatment of a space that requires respect and dignity.

Local police have been called upon to investigate the circumstances and identify those responsible for the damage. Following the incident, a group of community members personally assisted in cleaning the area and repairing the consequences of the fire to restore the site's dignity.
