Livno Hospital Faces Mass Specialist Resignations Over Low Salaries

In the Bosnian canton of Livno, 31 specialist doctors—representing about 85 % of the hospital’s specialist staff—have submitted resignations from the Cantonal Hospital and the local Health Center after wage increase requests were rejected. The departures would leave the facility without anesthesiologists, gynecologists, internists, otorhinolaryngologists, physiatrists, orthopedists and ophthalmologists, retaining only a pediatrician and two neurologists.

Medical trainees (specijalizanti) from the same institutions voiced their support for the striking specialists, stressing that they are legally unable to perform specialist duties independently. They warned that “silence is not indifference” and called on the cantonal government to engage in dialogue, improve pay conditions and find a solution that keeps doctors in the canton and protects patient care.
