Livno hosts book launch on King Tomislav Monument history

A new book titled ‘Sto godina spomenika kralju Tomislavu u Livnu’ (One Hundred Years of the King Tomislav Monument in Livno) was presented at the Franciscan Museum and Gorica Gallery in Livno. Written by Damir Tadić, the book commemorates the centenary of the monument's unveiling, which occurred on September 5.

Author Damir Tadić noted that the monument's history has been marked by political disputes, including disagreements regarding its location during its initial construction. He highlighted that following World War II, the monument faced periods of neglect and was nearly removed due to changing political systems, describing this as a form of ‘selective forgetting’ intended to make the symbol invisible.

Despite these challenges, the monument remained in place and became a central symbol of the city. Presenters of the book, including journalist Žarko Ivković, noted that the work provides historical and documentary value by placing the monument within the broader context of Livno's past. The City of Livno served as the publisher for the work.
