Livno wild horses face water crisis due to drought

Wild horses on the Kruzi plateau near Livno are facing a critical water shortage due to prolonged drought and high temperatures. Local citizens and activists are calling for urgent assistance, requesting that authorities organize water deliveries via tankers to prevent the animals from dying.

Critics point out that natural watering holes have dried up or been devastated, noting that minimal funding could have been used to maintain these sites earlier in the year. There are growing demands for transparency regarding how public funds previously allocated for horse population management and related studies have been utilized.

A documentary film titled ‘Livanjski divlji konji između slobode i nebrige’ (Livno Wild Horses Between Freedom and Neglect) highlights these systemic issues. The film addresses long-standing challenges including poaching, unregulated mass tourism, and the lack of institutional responsibility, as authorities often shift accountability between different agencies.
