Livorno Assessor Giovanna Cepparello Defends Tree Removal for Public Safety

Giovanna Cepparello, the assessor for urban green in the municipality of Livorno, explained that the recent decision to cut down a tree on Via Lorenzini was taken after a thorough technical review. She said the removal, while painful for the community, was necessary to ensure pedestrian safety because the tree’s roots conflicted with the sidewalk. The administration plans to use the same contract to plant new trees, not merely as compensation but to improve overall livability, including a shaded, inclusive rest area nearby. Cepparello emphasized that all alternatives were reconsidered in collaboration with political representatives and that the city will present the matter to the municipal council for further discussion.
