Livorno beach access protest sparks dispute over turnstiles

Matteo Hallissey, president of +Europa and the Italian Radicals, along with Ivan Grieco, has launched a campaign protesting the use of turnstiles at beach establishments in Italy. During a recent demonstration at the Onde del Tirreno facility in Livorno, the pair challenged the requirement to pay or use barriers to reach the shoreline.

Hallissey argues that current practices violate laws requiring private beach concession holders to allow free and unobstructed passage for citizens to reach the sea. He has called on the Mayor of Livorno and the Tuscany Region to intervene and remove these barriers to ensure public access to state-owned beaches.

The Livorno municipal administration has dismissed the protest as “pure instrumentalization.” Officials stated that the video released by Hallissey and Grieco was filmed approximately two weeks prior to its publication and that subsequent inspections confirmed the facility is operating in compliance with current regulations.
