Livorno civic group seeks restoration of historic Calafuria Tower

A civic committee led by artists Daniele Caluri and Federico Maria Sardelli has been formed to demand urgent restoration of the 16th‑century Calafuria Tower in Livorno. The tower, a rare survivor of a coastal defense system built by the Medici, has suffered severe weathering and salt damage. The group plans to petition the Agenzia del Demanio for a definitive restoration, gathering support from citizens, foundations and cultural organisations.

The campaign, launched on social media as “Salviamo la Torre di Calafuria”, has already attracted hundreds of followers and pledges of assistance, highlighting the tower’s historic and natural value and the risk it poses to beachgoers if it were to collapse.
