Livorno mayor defends PNRR progress as Cisternone square redesign draws criticism

Mayor Luca Salvetti said Livorno has completed more than 60% of its National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) projects, with 39 projects approved and 24 already finished. The municipality has used about €50 million of the €60 million allocated, representing 81% of the funds, and cites large works such as the Cubone area nearing completion.

Opposition councillor Alessandro Perini of Fratelli d’Italia criticised the recent renovation of Piazza del Cisternone, accusing the administration of removing parking spaces to install stone benches that are now used by people sleeping on the streets. Perini called the redesign a “degradation” of the square and highlighted a promised rendering that had shown most parking would be retained.
