Livorno Diocese announces new ecumenical and interreligious dialogue program

The Office for Ecumenism and Dialogue of the Diocese of Livorno has announced its pastoral program for the 2026-2027 year. The initiative aims to strengthen dialogue between Christian denominations and other religious communities within the territory, specifically targeting closer relations with the local Jewish community.

Key objectives include organizing shared prayer moments, study sessions, and fraternity events. A significant highlight of the plan is the proposed establishment of the Ecumenical Council of the Churches of Livorno, a structured body designed to allow different Christian confessions to share experiences, projects, and challenges.

The program also emphasizes collaboration with the Community of Sant’Egidio, which will play a special role in organizing an ecumenical prayer event scheduled for May 2027. The diocese intends to focus on personal encounters and friendship to build fraternity across diverse traditions, involving both parish communities and younger generations.
