Livorno firefighters declare state of agitation after equipment thefts

The USB Vigili del Fuoco union has declared a state of agitation following a series of thefts at the provincial command of the Firefighters in Livorno. The most recent incident occurred on August 11, during which cutting tools, including shears and spreaders, were stolen.

Union representatives claim that the ongoing thefts are compromising operational security, equipment availability, and the speed of emergency interventions. They have criticized the provincial administration for failing to implement adequate preventive measures. As a temporary solution, crews are storing cutting equipment in a van parked near departure vehicles, a practice that the union argues causes avoidable delays during emergency responses and increases risks for both operators and the public. The union has called for the intervention of Prefect Giancarlo Dionisi to activate formal cooling procedures.
