Livorno hospital corridor blocked by car after driver misinterprets signage

A grey Renault was driven into a corridor at the Livorno hospital on October 13, 2026. The corridors, part of a facility built in the 1930s, are designed for electric carts carrying supplies and for the rapid movement of patients on stretchers, but they are not intended for car traffic.

Asl Toscana Nord Ovest reported that the driver, an elderly individual, misinterpreted the hospital's internal signage. Security personnel assisted the driver in maneuvering the vehicle out of the passage to prevent interference with medical activities and pedestrian transit.

Following the incident, the health authority's technical department has been engaged to evaluate and install devices to prevent similar occurrences and ensure the safety of emergency and rescue spaces. This is not the first such incident at the facility, with a similar occurrence involving a different vehicle reported in 2020.
