Livorno Hospital to implement new digital PET-TC in 2027

The Nuclear Medicine department at the Livorno Hospital is scheduled to implement a new, state-of-the-art digital PET-TC machine in January 2027. Installation is expected in December 2026, with clinical activities for patients beginning the following month.

The project involves a deep renovation of a building dating back to 1931 to accommodate the complex modern technology. This restructuring led to unforeseen technical challenges, including hydrogeological issues in underground sections and necessary seismic adjustments. These complications resulted in a budget increase of approximately 760,000 euros.

Once the full program is completed by April 2027, the facility will feature a renovated nuclear medicine hub, including an autonomous radiopharmacy, new outpatient clinics, and modernized reception areas. The new digital equipment is expected to improve image quality, increase exam speed, and reduce radiation exposure for patients.
