Livorno celebrates centennial Palio Marinaro with races and festivals

On Saturday 27 June 2026 Livorno marks the 100th edition of the Palio Marinaro, the city’s historic rowing competition, at the Terrazza Mascagni. Eight traditional neighbourhood rowing sections compete over a 2 km course, with junior crews at 18:00, a women’s four at 19:15 and the premier ten‑crew men’s race at 19:45. The event is streamed live from drones onto a large screen and TV, and a special commemorative issue of the CN‑Comune Notizie magazine – edited by Mayor Luca Salvetti and local journalists – documents a century of the Palio’s history.

The race is paired with the inaugural Livorno Urban Festival, which brings street‑sport, gaming, music and cultural activities to the waterfront, and with a “Cena sulla Terrazza” dinner for 500 guests featuring a Menu della Tradizione prepared by the Associazione Cuochi Livornesi. Together the races, the festival and the publication celebrate the Palio’s heritage and its role in Livorno’s identity.
