Livorno Mayor Luca Salvetti to file lawsuits after protest insults
Livorno Mayor Luca Salvetti has announced he will pursue legal action against individuals who called him “venduto” (sold out) and “dishonest” during a confrontation with members of the Urban Gardens Committee (Comitato Orti Urbani). The incident occurred during a regional event at the Terme del Corallo, where committee representatives were protesting the upcoming eviction scheduled for November 3.
Salvetti stated that while he accepts criticism, he will not tolerate attacks on his personal and professional integrity. He held a press conference alone, noting that the legal matter concerns him as an individual rather than the municipal administration.
Regarding the underlying dispute, the Mayor defended the administration's efforts to mediate, proposing a plan to return 80-90% of the area to citizens. He argued that arbitrary changes to building indices could trigger similar conflicts across the city. Salvetti indicated that he has discussed the possibility of a dialogue extension with the new Police Commissioner, but warned that if the committee rejects the current proposal, the administration will proceed with the scheduled actions.
