Livorno officials propose climate control plan for schools

Regional and local councilors in Italy are proposing a multi-year plan to install climate control systems in high schools within the province of Livorno, including the municipality of Rosignano. The initiative follows concerns regarding high temperatures in classrooms that have become a recurring issue.

Data from the Ministry of Education and Merit and Cittadinanzattiva indicates that only 4.8% of school buildings in the Livorno province are equipped with air conditioning or ventilation, which is below the national average of 7.42%. While the Italian government has allocated 20 million euros for improving microclimatic comfort in classrooms, local officials emphasize that building owners must also program specific interventions and secure necessary resources.

In Rosignano, Councilor Roberta Ferretti is presenting an inquiry to the City Council to obtain a precise overview of municipal school properties and determine which facilities currently have ventilation systems or planned upgrades. As a temporary measure to cope with the heat, there has been a notable increase in students using portable battery-operated fans in classrooms.
