Livorno officials seek government mediation in Pierburg dispute

The Livorno municipal administration is intensifying institutional efforts regarding the Pierburg dispute following Rheinmetall’s announced sale of its civil Power Systems division to the German investment fund Aequita for 350 million euros.

Federico Mirabelli, the Councilor for Productive Activities and Labor Policies, has called on the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy to act as a guarantor in institutional discussions. The municipality is requesting that the Ministry bring executives from both Rheinmetall and Aequita to the negotiating table alongside trade unions and local institutions.

The goal of this intervention is to secure definitive answers regarding the industrial plan, future investments, production prospects, and employment guarantees for the Pierburg plant in Livorno. In response to the ongoing uncertainty, workers have proclaimed a ten-hour strike.
