Livorno port activists protest alleged arms shipment

Activists and the Unione Sindacale di Base (Usb) union have launched protests at the port of Livorno, Italy, targeting a vessel allegedly transporting military supplies. Activists using sailboats blocked the entrance channel to prevent a container ship from reaching the Darsena Toscana terminal.

The Usb union claims the vessel is transporting approximately 614 tons of explosives, drones, and other supplies destined for the Sigonella military base in Sicily. The union has called for immediate strikes within the terminal and broader mobilization against the transit of military materials through Italian ports.

However, the Prefecture and the Coast Guard have denied the presence of war materiel, stating that while the ship is carrying dangerous goods, it does not contain military equipment. Law enforcement vessels intercepted the activist boats and escorted them to the dock, while the ship remained at anchor awaiting entry.
