Italian towns launch waste centre and solar projects to boost sustainability

In Cerignola (Puglia), environment assessor Vincenzo Sforza announced the city has applied to regional funding for a new Central Waste Collection Centre (CCR) on Viale Europa, saying door‑to‑door collection is insufficient and the CCR will provide a modern, monitored site to reduce illegal dumping.

In Tuscany, local groups AVS Livorno and Livorno Civica endorsed an appeal by Val di Cornia mayors for clear regional rules on renewable installations, calling for designated industrial, port and degraded lands for wind and solar, and urging the regional government to adopt a law to guide projects and avoid ad‑hoc permits.

In the Apennines, the municipal library in Bologna received a €119,000 grant from the Metropolitan City of Bologna to install a 20 kW photovoltaic system with storage, feeding the grid and lowering the library’s electricity bills as part of the local renewable energy community.

In Palazzolo sull’Oglio (Brescia), the GSE awarded €120,000 in 40 % grant funding to six participants—two firms and four households—of the town’s Renewable Energy Community (CER), supporting solar installations and local energy sharing, with the program aiming to expand benefits to more citizens and businesses.
