Livros no Tatame project launches in Campo Grande

The Livros no Tatame project has launched at the Inápolis hub of the Orquestra Fraternidade Sem Fronteiras in Campo Grande, Brazil. The initiative combines shared reading with psychoanalytic listening to provide a space for dialogue and emotional expression for children and adolescents.

Created by psychoanalyst Christine Nunes, the project originally began in 2018 in Rio de Janeiro communities and received an award from the International Psychoanalytical Association in 2021. In Campo Grande, sessions are led by mental health professionals known as ‘psileitoras’. These biweekly meetings use literature as a starting point to help participants discuss feelings, daily experiences, and identity development.

The project complements the orchestra's musical training, which serves 89 students across five hubs in the region. According to orchestra coordinator Paulo Bernardi, the initiative supports the integral development and social bonding of the participants.
