Liz Vilchis apologizes for offensive past social media posts

Liz Vilchis, a former collaborator of the Andrés Manuel López Obrador administration, issued a public apology on August 22, 2026, following the viral resurgence of offensive social media posts from her past.

Users recovered and circulated tweets posted by Vilchis between 2011 and 2015. The messages contained derogatory comments regarding women's weight, appearance, and personality, as well as classist remarks and allusions to drug use. One specific post targeted former local deputy Nayeli Salvatori, calling her “the most common and ignorant old woman I know.”

Vilchis, whose X account was temporarily deactivated during the controversy, returned to the platform to state: “I am not at all proud of what I wrote at the time, I am ashamed to have been that person and I offer an honest apology for what is mentioned in those texts.” She added that she no longer identifies with her past self and now views “fatphobia, classism, and prejudice” as forms of violence that must be combated.
