Lizbeth “N” seeks release from detention in Coahuila animal cruelty case

Lizbeth “N”, director of the Frichem Foundation, is seeking to challenge her preventive detention in a criminal case involving alleged animal cruelty in Castaños, Coahuila. Her defense requested a hearing to modify her current status, which would allow her to face the legal process outside of prison. However, the hearing was postponed due to failures in notifying all involved parties.

The legal proceedings stem from an August raid on a property linked to the foundation, where authorities seized 63 dogs. The formal charges specifically focus on the condition of 53 animals found with severe malnutrition, dehydration, and parasite infestations. Two animals died following the operation, and several others required urgent medical care.

Lizbeth “N” was arrested on August 17 and remains held at the San Pedro de las Colonias Women's Penitentiary. A judge has granted a two-month period for complementary investigations. Another individual, José Manuel “N”, a caretaker at the shelter, is also facing legal proceedings in connection with the case.
