Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba documentary premieres in Havana
The documentary ‘Mi sueño cubano’, directed by Spanish filmmaker Christian Dehugo, is arriving in Havana following its run at various international film festivals. The 90-minute film explores the history and impact of Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba (LADC), a company that integrates dance into artistic, educational, and social projects.
Through rehearsals, performances, and testimonials, the film examines the discipline and perseverance of multiple generations of dancers. It also highlights the role of the LADC school as a space for personal growth for Cuban children and youth. The screenings coincide with the 35th anniversary of the LADC company, which was founded in 1991.
Special presentations at the Teatro Martí will include a prologue featuring choreographies by LADC students, followed by discussions with the director and Lizt Alfonso. The documentary has previously been featured at the Havana Film Festival New York, the Valladolid International Film Week (Seminci) in Spain, and is scheduled for exhibition at the InShadow – Lisbon Screendance Festival in Portugal.
