Lizzo reflects on growth following harassment lawsuits
Singer Lizzo, born Melissa Jefferson, has reflected on her personal growth following legal challenges involving allegations of harassment and discrimination. In a recent interview on Sunday Today, she discussed the difficulty of navigating public perception, stating, “I had to make peace with the fact that there's a version of Lizzo that exists now that the world controls.”
The artist noted that while she cannot control the media narrative, she focuses on her own identity and self-reflection. She described the music industry as a “headline game” and expressed a desire to focus on her professional achievements rather than fighting against untruths.
These reflections follow lawsuits filed in August 2023 by former backup dancers Crystal Williams, Arianna Davis, and Noelle Rodriguez. The plaintiffs accused the singer of creating a hostile and abusive work environment, including allegations of sexual harassment, weight-shaming, and disability discrimination. Lizzo has previously denied these allegations, calling them “false” and “outrageous.”
