Ljubljana ŽAK clinches both men’s and women’s titles at Slovenian athletics cup

Ljubljana’s ŽAK club won the team titles in both the men’s and women’s divisions at the two‑day Slovenian Athletics Club Cup held in Maribor on 11 July 2026. Individual champions included Zala Istenič (100 m), Lovro Mesec Košir (400 m personal record of 21.23 s), and Anita Horvat, who also won the 800 m. The women’s 4 × 400 m relay set a new club record of 3:38.36, beating the 2019 mark of 3:41.22.

Other notable performances were Mitja Zubin’s 50.66 s in the 400 m hurdles, Agata Zupin’s 55.96 s, Oskar Petak’s 1:50.91 in the 800 m, Vid Botolin’s 8:20.42 in the 3000 m, and Tevž Podlipnik’s club‑record hammer throw of 75.20 m. About 300 athletes from 29 clubs participated, marking the close of the season for the Slovenian International League. Quotes from athletes highlighted their preparation: Istenič said, “I’m better prepared, as the results show,” and Mesec Košir noted, “On the start I went unrestricted, doing exactly what I set out to achieve at the cup.” The event underscored ŽAK’s continued dominance while coastal (Primorska) clubs lagged in the overall standings.
