Ljubljana and Maribor face parking woes as tree‑row proposal and garage closure stall solutions
In Ljubljana, city officials have suggested replacing many curb‑side parking spaces with tree rows to combat rising temperatures and heavy rain runoff. The plan calls for excavating deep pits, installing gravel for water drainage, and planting suitable trees and shrubs to cool the streets and reduce impermeable surface area.
In Maribor, the shutdown of a garage housing over 100 vehicles has left residents without alternative parking. Councilor Ljubica Jančič warned the municipality that nearby residents are now forced to park in front of other blocks, causing congestion and risk of fines. The city cites safety concerns and legal proceedings over land ownership as reasons the garage remains closed, and says any new parking solutions can only be pursued after these matters are resolved.
