Ljubljana apartment sold following discovery of mummified body

An auction has successfully sold half of an apartment on Majaronova Street in Ljubljana. The property gained notoriety in November 2020 when the mummified body of Klara Kovačič was discovered inside.

Prosecutors allege that her son, Anton Kovačič, hid the body for eight years while continuing to collect her pension, resulting in a fraud of approximately 92,760 euros against the Pension and Disability Insurance Institute. The sale of his half of the apartment yielded 136,000 euros. The 73-year-old defendant denies the charges of desecrating a corpse and fraud as the trial continues.
