Zagreb police investigate fatal collision involving Porsche and cyclist

A 78-year-old driver is facing criminal charges following a fatal traffic accident in New Zagreb, Croatia. The incident occurred on Sunday, October 25, around 2:25 PM on Vatikanska Street near the intersection with Svetog Mateja Street.

Police reports indicate the driver was operating a Porsche at speeds between 70 and 90 km/h in a zone where the limit is 40 km/h. The vehicle struck an 88-year-old cyclist riding a Corratec bicycle. The impact was severe enough to throw the cyclist and the bicycle westward, resulting in the victim's death at the scene.

Investigators noted that the cyclist also committed several traffic violations, including riding on the sidewalk in an area without a designated bike lane and failing to dismount while crossing the pedestrian walkway. Despite these findings, the driver will be handed over to police custody and charged with causing a traffic accident under Article 227 of the Criminal Code.
