Ljubljana European Table Tennis Championships begin individual matches

The individual competitions at the European Table Tennis Championships in Ljubljana have commenced, with Slovenian players securing early progress. Darko Jorgić, the top-ranked Slovenian player and fourth seed in the tournament, faced a challenging opening match against Spanish qualifier Diego Lill. Despite trailing 3:2 in sets, Jorgić managed to overcome the pressure and secure a victory in the deciding set after a 45-minute match.

Deni Kožul also advanced to the second round following his initial match. In the women's competition, Slovenian players Ana Tofant and Sara Tokić successfully navigated the qualifying rounds. Tofant is scheduled to face Portugal's Fu Yu, while Tokić will compete against Turkey's Sibel Altinkaya.

Jorgić noted that the pressure of being a favorite and the momentum of a qualifier made the match difficult, particularly regarding his service returns. He is set to face Poland's Milosz Redzimski in the next round.
