Ljubljana heatwave spurs cooling spots as European cities impose alcohol bans
Across much of Europe an intense heat wave has pushed temperatures toward 40 °C, prompting health warnings. Authorities in France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Germany have issued alerts, limited alcohol sales at public events, adjusted school schedules, opened climate‑controlled spaces and postponed outdoor sports.
In Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana, the municipal government highlighted dozens of free drinking fountains, misting stations and four public swimming pools with a unified ticket, as well as parks such as Tivoli, Rožnik and Golovec offering shade. Health officials advise staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous activity between 10 – 17 h and seeking cooler environments.
