Ljubljana schools face high absenteeism due to digestive issues

Two primary schools in Ljubljana, OŠ Koseze and OŠ Božidarja Jakca, are experiencing a significant outbreak of digestive issues, leading to high rates of student and staff absenteeism. At OŠ Koseze, only 200 out of 708 students attended classes, while at OŠ Božidarja Jakca, 285 out of 501 students were present. Several staff members have also been absent due to illness.

Authorities from the City Municipality of Ljubljana suggest the cause is likely a viral outbreak. Water quality tests conducted by Voka Snaga at OŠ Koseze found no E. coli or coliform bacteria, indicating no fecal contamination in the drinking water. Results for water samples taken at OŠ Božidarja Jakca are still pending.

No hospitalizations have been reported. As a precaution, the kitchen at OŠ Koseze was temporarily closed, with students receiving packed lunch packages instead. Schools have implemented increased disinfection protocols and are emphasizing hand hygiene and ventilation.
