Ljupco Pecov receives suspended sentence for financial crimes
Ljupco Pecov, a businessman known as ‘Djallot’, has received a two-year suspended prison sentence after pleading guilty to financial crimes in the ‘Zinzhiri’ case. The sentence will only be executed if he commits a new crime within the next five years.
In addition to the suspended sentence, Pecov was ordered to pay an 8,000 euro fine and is prohibited from serving as a founder or manager of a legal entity for 10 years. The court also penalized the company DUTUD A. K. A. P. DOOEL, which is in bankruptcy, with a fine of one million denars and a five-year ban on obtaining licenses, participating in public calls, or establishing new legal entities.
The ‘Zinzhiri’ case involves allegations of financial crime, tax evasion, and VAT fraud affecting the state budget by approximately 8 million euros. The investigation included 26 individuals and 28 companies. Pecov was found to have submitted inaccurate documents and failed to pay taxes totaling over 10 million denars between 2019 and 2021.
The case gained significant public attention after Pecov alleged that his former lawyer, Fehmi Stafa, sought a bribe to influence judge Gjoko Ristov. Stafa subsequently pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 15 months in prison.
