Llandudno retirees protest service charge hikes

Elderly residents at the Cwrt Sant Tudno retirement apartments in Llandudno have expressed outrage following a decision to increase monthly service and building charges by between 18% and 21%.

Residents, many of whom are on fixed incomes, reported that the hike will cause significant financial hardship. One resident, 77-year-old Peter Thompson, noted that his monthly bill increased by approximately £148.84. Residents described the situation as being ‘held hostage’ due to their lack of choice in the matter.

A representative from the management provider, First Port, stated that the company is ‘committed to providing value for money for home-owners’ and explained that the new charges reflect the ‘actual costs of managing’ the flats. Reports suggest the property may have been underfunded for over a decade, necessitating the adjustment to cover staffing and other operational costs.
