Llanera rejects reopening Santi Cazorla spa due to lack of profitability

The Llanera City Council has officially rejected the reopening of the spa facilities at the Santi Cazorla Sports Complex, citing a lack of profitability and sustainability. The decision was communicated by municipal spokesperson José Antonio González during a plenary session, where he stated that the service is not considered an essential public utility and has seen only residual use among the complex's 680 members.

The council plans to repurpose the space currently occupied by the spa, sauna, and hydromassage areas for other activities. This announcement sparked significant tension and protests from local users who have been campaigning for the facility's return since the pandemic. Residents expressed frustration over the change of use for the area and questioned why they continue to pay standard rates without access to the spa services.

Protesters noted that their demands were previously supported by a petition containing 333 signatures submitted over two years ago. The session concluded with heated exchanges between the public and officials, requiring intervention from Mayor Eva María Pérez to manage the confrontation.
