Ülle Madise sworn in as President of Estonia

Ülle Madise has officially been sworn in as the President of Estonia, succeeding Alar Karis. The inauguration ceremony took place at the Riigikogu in Tallinn, where Madise took the oath of office and received the presidential chain.

Madise, a 51-year-old constitutional lawyer and former Chancellor of Justice, is the sixth head of state since Estonia regained independence in 1991 and the second woman to hold the position. In her inaugural address, she emphasized the importance of maintaining Estonia’s Western orientation and continued support for Ukraine against Russian aggression.

She called for national unity and resilience, urging citizens not to succumb to fear or hopelessness in an “unpredictable and dangerous” global environment. Madise also highlighted her commitment to defending the Constitution, protecting fundamental rights, and fostering trust within society and its institutions.
