Lleida Air Challenge showcases aerospace innovation at Alguaire Airport
The 12th edition of the Lleida Air Challenge took place at the Lleida–Alguaire Airport, gathering hundreds of aviation enthusiasts and approximately one hundred exhibitors. The event focused on technological innovation and professional training within the aeronautical and aerospace sectors, featuring participants such as DJI, Instadrone, ENAIRE, and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center.
Key highlights included discussions on artificial intelligence in aviation and the presentation of the Esqual SB1, a prototype ultralight aircraft to be manufactured in Vila-sana. Jordi Candela, director of Aeroports de Catalunya, noted that the airport aims to serve as an industrial and technological hub, highlighting the readiness of its campus and new maintenance hangars.
While the event showcased advancements in civil drones and advanced air mobility, the closing drone show drew such a massive crowd that it caused significant traffic congestion. Attendees reported five-kilometer-long queues and criticized the organization for poor management of the influx of visitors.
