Lleida begins LED lighting renovation in commercial district

The Lleida City Council has begun a project to renew the lighting in the city's commercial district. The works involve replacing 220 lanterns located on the overhead lines of several streets, including Cardenal Remolins, Democràcia Magdalena, Carme, and Sant Antoni.

The project is scheduled to last approximately one month, with work being carried out during night hours between 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM to minimize disruption to residents and local businesses. Following this phase, additional lighting in adjacent streets will be updated in November.

This initiative is part of a larger investment funded by an 8 million euro interest-free loan from the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE). The goal is to transition the city's entire public lighting system to LED technology, replacing obsolete sodium vapor lamps. This transition is expected to reduce energy consumption by 64%. To date, 9,450 of the planned 14,545 streetlights have been replaced, with the full process expected to conclude by March of next year.
