Lleida exports decline as regional trade surplus shrinks
Exports from the Lleida region in Catalonia have experienced a significant decline. In June, exports fell by 7.4% compared to the previous year, totaling 292 million euros. This makes Lleida the only Catalan demarcation to report a decrease in foreign sales during that month, even as the rest of Catalonia reached record highs.
During the first half of the year, cumulative exports for the region reached 1,380.2 million euros, a 6.9% decrease compared to the same period in 2025. This decline in sales is contrasted by a 5.05% increase in imports, which rose to 1,113.15 million euros. Consequently, the regional trade surplus dropped by 41.22%, falling from over 423 million euros to 248.7 million euros.
Sector-specific data shows that food, beverages, and tobacco exports fell by 10% in June. The pork sector was notably impacted by African swine fever, seeing a 19% drop in exports through June. Other declines were observed in stone fruits, such as peaches and nectarines, and stone fruit products. Conversely, imports of wheat and other cereals saw a significant increase.
