Lleida farmers to report rabbit crop damage to local councils

Agricultural organizations and the Department of Agriculture have agreed to allow farmers to report damages caused by rabbits directly to local town councils. This measure, discussed in Alfés, aims to facilitate the location of affected areas and accelerate the implementation of control measures.

While an app has been developed for this process, challenges remain regarding the digital divide among older farmers and the requirement to identify specific cadastral plots. Local councils are expected to assist in collecting and channeling this data to the Department of Agriculture.

In addition to reporting mechanisms, agricultural entities are seeking meetings with central government representatives to address rabbit populations in safety zones near highways, railways, and canals, where hunting is prohibited. Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture intends to continue intensive hunting pilot programs in areas like Verdú and Alfés, following their perceived effectiveness.
