Catalonia regional updates: healthcare expansion and infrastructure projects

Various regional developments are occurring across Catalonia. In Lleida, the public health network is temporarily increasing surgical capacity by partnering with the Perpetuo Socorro clinic. Starting in October, the clinic will handle 15 to 25 orthopedic and traumatology procedures per week to assist the Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital while its surgical block undergoes a major renovation to expand from 14 to 24 operating rooms.

In Barcelona, Park Güell has begun a 6-million-euro renovation phase as part of its 2023-2027 strategic plan. The project, expected to last 18 months, includes upgrading lighting, expanding Wi-Fi coverage, and improving video surveillance.

In Sant Cugat, the Special Olympics 2026 torch will pass through the city on October 2, involving 68 local athletes in a procession to the Plaça de la Vila.

Legal and political issues are also noted: the Court of Appeal of Lleida ruled that a driver was not liable for the death of a dog in Vall d’Aran, citing the animal's sudden appearance; meanwhile, in Terrassa, the PSC political group has denounced the poor state of road markings, attributing the degradation to a 13% reduction in maintenance budgets.
