Lleida hospitals launch TeleUCI for remote critical care support
The Hospital Universitari Arnau de Vilanova (HUAV) in Lleida and the Fundació Sant Hospital de La Seu d'Urgell have launched the TeleUCI project. This tele-assistance initiative allows intensive care specialists in Lleida to remotely assess and support critical and semi-critical patients treated in the emergency department of La Seu d'Urgell.
The system utilizes robotic camera technology from Teladoc Health to establish real-time audiovisual connections. This enables specialists to evaluate clinical status, review complementary tests, and participate in joint decision-making with local medical teams. The project is part of the Critic.CAT initiative within the Lleida-Pirineus territorial network.
Following a successful model previously implemented with the Hospital Comarcal del Pallars, the TeleUCI system has already assisted in the remote assessment of 70 patients. According to Dr. Jesús Caballero, territorial clinical director of Critical Patients in Lleida, the project improves care quality during resuscitation and helps avoid unnecessary patient transfers, benefiting both patients and their families.
