Lloret de Mar library commemorates Blai Bonet centenary
The Lloret de Mar Municipal Library has announced a series of four cultural activities to commemorate the centenary of the birth of Blai Bonet, a highly influential figure in contemporary Catalan literature. The program, running from October through December, aims to introduce new readers to the author’s diverse body of work, which includes poetry, novels, journalism, and essays.
Scheduled events include a lecture-recital titled ‘Igual que un pi de mar: Blai Bonet visionari’ by Pau Vadell on October 20, and a reading club session on November 12 focused on his well-known 1958 novel, ‘El mar’. The library director, Gisela Ruiz, stated that the initiative serves as a “doorway to the universe of Blai Bonet,” allowing the public to rediscover an author whose work continues to resonate a century after his birth.
Bonet, born in 1926 and deceased in 1997, received several prestigious honors during his lifetime, including the Creu de Sant Jordi and the Medalla d’Or de Palma. His novel ‘El mar’ was notably adapted into a film by director Agustí Villaronga.
