Lloyds Banking Group faces analyst rating downgrade and stock volatility
Lloyds Banking Group is experiencing mixed analyst sentiment and stock price fluctuations. RBC Capital Markets has downgraded the bank from ‘Outperform’ to ‘Sector Perform,’ lowering its price target to GBp 115.00. The downgrade is attributed to increased competition in the UK deposit market and potential pressure on net interest margins.
Despite the downgrade, Lloyds reported strong financial results for the first half of 2026, with net income rising 9% year-on-year to GBP 9.70 billion. Statutory profit after tax grew 23% to GBP 3.10 billion. While the stock has seen recent volatility, dropping approximately 19% from its August peak, some analysts from Morgan Stanley and Bank of America have issued higher price targets of 140p, suggesting potential upside.
The bank is currently implementing its ‘Accelerate 2030’ strategy, which CEO Charlie Nunn states aims to drive growth through improved customer experiences, connectivity, and productivity enabled by technology.
