Llŷr floating wind farm approved by Welsh Government
The Welsh Government has granted Section 36 consent for the Llŷr floating offshore wind farm, a test‑and‑demonstration project developed by Cierco Energy in the Celtic Sea off Pembrokeshire. The approval clears the final major regulatory hurdle, following a marine licence from Natural Resources Wales and a seabed‑rights lease with the Crown Estate.
Llŷr is designed to prove technologies for deeper‑water offshore wind and is targeted to generate its first power by 2031. The scheme is expected to create around 2,000 construction jobs and additional skilled positions during operation, supporting Wales’s net‑zero carbon goals and positioning South‑West Wales as a hub for offshore wind innovation, engineering and clean‑energy expertise.
