Llucmajor approves 51.6 million euro waste and cleaning contracts

The Llucmajor City Council has approved new contracts for waste management and municipal cleaning services, totaling an investment of over 51.6 million euros. The waste management portion of the contract, valued at approximately 48.28 million euros over eight years, is divided into three distinct lots.

Urbaser S.A. has been awarded the first lot for urban solid waste collection, valued at 36.6 million euros. This service will introduce door-to-door collection in residential areas and adapt to seasonal demand. The second lot, focused on green park management and waste treatment, was awarded to UTE Melchor Mascaró SAU-Adalmo SL for 9.87 million euros. The third lot, covering bulky and textile waste, was awarded to Deixalles Serveis Ambientals EI, S.L. for 1.8 million euros.

The decision was met with significant opposition during an extraordinary plenary session. Opposition parties, including PSIB-PSOE and Llibertat Llucmajor, criticized the eight-year duration of the contract, arguing it lacks consensus and may not provide sufficient resources for the municipality's extensive needs. Specific concerns were raised regarding the reduction of organic waste collection frequency and the discrepancy between tax revenue and service allocation.
