Lluís Puig returns to Catalonia after nine years in exile

Lluís Puig, the former Catalan Minister of Culture, has returned to his hometown of Terrassa after nine years of exile. His return follows the Spanish Supreme Court's decision to lift arrest warrants against him, Carles Puigdemont, and Toni Comín, a move facilitated by the Constitutional Court's endorsement of the Amnesty Law.

Upon his arrival, Puig participated in the ‘Cants per la llibertat’ (Songs for Freedom) event in Terrassa, an ongoing protest held daily since 2017. He was accompanied by prominent Junts leaders, including Parliament President Josep Rull and Secretary General Jordi Turull. Puig expressed his intention to occupy his parliamentary seat and criticized the Spanish judiciary for attempting to conduct politics without facing the electorate.

While Puig has held a parliamentary seat remotely, he is expected to attend in person at the Catalan Parliament. Additionally, Toni Comín is scheduled to travel to Madrid to formalize his status as a Member of the European Parliament.
